Lake Nakuru is a shoal, salty lake where flamingos flock. This lake extends one of the world’s most magnificent wildlife views – that of intelligent pink flamingos as far as the eye can behold. When circumstances are favourable, between one and two million minor and more prominent flamingos feed around the shores of the shallow soda lake, collectively with tens of thousands of other birds. Essentially, any visitor to Lake Nakuru is likely to encounter flocks large enough to induce absolute awe. Over four hundred species of birds sighted at the park, which is a bird watchers paradise.

The lake is salty, feeding blue-green algae, which in turn feed flamingoes. Occasionally, the number of flamingoes feeding in the lake may be as high as two million. They include little grebe, pratincole, swift, little bee-eater, cape wigeon, yellow-billed stork, African spoonbill, augur buzzard, gabar goshawk, water dikkop, great tit, starling, hornbill and crombec.
