Venice is a city in northeastern Italy and the city of the Veneto region. The town was built on 118 small islands, separated by canals and joined by over 400 bridges. The islands are in the superficial Venetian Lagoon, an included gulf within the Po and the Piave rivers (more exactly between the Brenta and the Sile). In 2020, 258,685 people resided in the Comune di Venezia; of that, around 55,000 stayed in the historic city of Venice (Centro Storico). Mutually with Padua and Treviso, the city includes the Padua-Treviso-Venice Metropolitan Area (PATREVE), a municipal statistical area with a total populace of 2.6 million.
