1. Ada Foah — Where the Volta Meets the Sea
Ada sits where the Volta River enters the Atlantic. Sandbars and river islands create calmer water than most of the coast, making it popular for boat rides, jet skiing and weekend escapes. The estuary is also an important nesting area for sea turtles. Join our Ada day trip or plan a weekend stay.
2. Anomabo — Quiet Central Region Stay
Anomabo is a fishing town east of Cape Coast with a handful of beachfront lodges. It is a good base for visiting the castles while staying somewhere quieter than the city.
3. Cape Coast and Elmina — Beach With History
Both towns are home to UNESCO-listed Forts and Castles of Ghana. Combine a castle tour with an afternoon at a beach resort, or add Kakum National Park for a full itinerary.
4. Busua — Ghana's Surf Village
Busua, near Takoradi, has a long sandy bay and consistent beginner-friendly waves. Surf schools rent boards and offer lessons. It has a laid-back village feel and is busy on Ghanaian public holidays.
5. Butre — Hidden Bay Next Door
A short walk over the hill from Busua, Butre is a small village beach with a lagoon and the ruins of Fort Batenstein above the bay. It is one of the most peaceful spots on the coast.
6. Axim — The Wild West Coast
Axim, further west, has long empty beaches, palm-backed coves and Fort San Antonio. Accommodation is limited, so book ahead.
